Hi All!

It is a unique time in history… We are all navigating through this unsettling time together, so lets document this in hopes to remember all that we will learn and all that we have overcome so far!

Rebecca Farmer Photography is now offering Front Porch Sessions for April and May to families in the Santa Barbara area. These are quick 10 minute photo sessions where I will document you and your loved ones outside on your front porch! To keep this safe for everyone, we will keep a minimum of 6 feet between us and I will direct you all from afar with a long lens so I keep my distance. Sessions are only $75 for 10 minutes and includes your selection of 2 final high resolution digital files. This is a great way to not only have a fun family activity, but you will also be helping out a local small business in your community. The Beauty of a Santa Barbara Winter, Santa Barbara Family Photographer

I just love working with this family of five – they always coordinate their outfits so well to go perfectly with the locations we choose. We shot this session for their holiday card, but you wouldn’t know it from the gorgeous, sunny afternoon on the beach.

Shooting on location presents challenges, like getting soaked in the waves as the tide comes up, but we all had so much fun frolicking in the waves. It was perfect for their rambunctious kids and the perfect way to tire them out for the sandy and salty car ride home!

I’ve worked with this family for years and mom always brings along the best props! We did this mini session shoot for their holiday card and got some fun shots running around the grounds of the gorgeous Stowe House estate.

Just 20 minutes long, my mini sessions should be called mini miracles – knowing that we have to work fast can really add to the energy and fun of the shoot. The white chocolate Santa beard on a stick kept us all in stitches! And the rainbow pom-pom necklace added just the right pop for a series with serious personality.

Have family, will travel! I was delighted to accept my good friend’s request to join her growing family at their Park City, Utah home to capture the beautiful Fall colors for their holiday card. (It’s no secret that I jump at the chance to travel for work!)

As a Southern California native, the turning of the seasons just blew me away – it was my first time witnessing the vibrant yellows, oranges and reds. We worked with a handful of stunning locations, from their backyard to a babbling brook nearby. I couldn’t put my camera down and the results were just gorgeous!

There are so many great locations here in Santa Barbara, but these bluffs always take my breath away. No matter how many times I walk along these cliffs, I am always in awe of this magical place... Truly stunning!! With this vintage baby-blue Volkswagen Bug, this adorable little family, and these incredible views, I was in my own dreamland!!! I couldn't have asked for a better afternoon... The light was perfect, the weather warm, and this sweet little girl was having the time of her life. Magic!!!

As summer wraps up and the kiddos begin to gear up for the new school year, I wanted to share this adorable summer session photographed out on the bluffs here in Santa Barbara, CA. The colors, tones, location and the props for this shoot were inspired by Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. With new adventures on the horizon, let's remember to let kids be kids and to always explore and discover right along with them!

As a lifestyle photographer I normally work with children, so when this dear couple asked me to take pictures of them with their little pup, it was the little kid in me that said yes.

In the 10 years I’ve been doing portraiture I rarely work with animals, but I’ve found that puppies and children share one major trait in front of the lens: they run the show! If they are bored, you will know it. If they are grumpy, you will know it. If they are having a blast, watch out for cuteness overload!

I made my silly noises, ran all over the place and rolled on the ground with this sweet rascal - anything to get that priceless, authentic expression that lets you see inside his personality. I had a blast with this furry friend and his humans!

What to Wear, Santa Barbara Family Photographer

What to wear is one of the most frequently asked questions in portraiture. My answer is pretty simple: keep everyone coordinated, but not matching. I usually tell my clients to choose a color palette of 3 to 5 colors and have everyone dress in varying shades and tones of those colors. Most importantly, be comfortable and like what you’re wearing. Unless you’re going for a themed portrait, your clothes should look natural on you and reflect what you would wear during your day-to-day or when you get dressed up.

I have photographed this sweet family for two years now and as their brood grows, so does the level of cuteness. Talk about kids with style! Mom definitely knows what she’s doing.

I love the eclectic urban look on these five. With two rambunctious boys and a sweet little toddler, their outfits were totally appropriate to let them run around and not worry about messing up their clothes. I have photographed this sweet family for four years now. We've celebrated many occasions from pregnancy to birth to the holidays. It is always such a pleasure. Watching and documenting the blossoming lives of all five of them is beyond special. Whether the first child or the third, the addition of a new baby is so exciting! Each little person adds to the family dynamic, offering new opportunities for emotional growth, deepening of the family ties and new relationships forming and evolving as the children adjust to their new roles. The youngest becomes the middle child, the oldest become a nurturer and both mom and dad have to find their new grooves as well.

I love seeing my clients’ families grow with each passing year. Capturing the fleeting magic of early childhood is just one of the reasons why I love my job so much. Aren’t you ready to have your next baby? ;)

Summer is here along with some images from my mini sessions taken a few weeks back!!! I love this time of year... The sun is shining, the weather is warm, and dinner at the beach is the perfect way to wind down the busy work day. I will be having a few more mini sessions coming up on August 10th at Shoreline Beach here in Santa Barbara... This is the perfect way to get some great shots of your little ones frolicking in the Santa Barbara sunshine and dipping their cute little toes in the ocean waves! Ahhh, those sweet summer days! LOVE THEM!

What a beautiful shoot with this cute family of four! We had a fun and interesting time at The Grassini Family Vineyard in the gorgeous Santa Ynez Valley back in April of the year. Yes, I know I am a little behind on posting updates on the blog... It's already July! Where has the time gone! The first 20 minutes of this shoot were just stunning! The light was peeking through a giant oak tree in a large open grassy field... Just Beautiful! However, the weather quickly took a turn for the worse. As dark clouds decided to roll in on us and the rain came sprinkling down, we found some shelter hoping the weather might pass. Once we realized our shoot came to an end, we decided that we would reconvene in Santa Barbara a few days later to finish our photo shoot. I just love all these images and the fun crazy story of how these photos came to be!

What a fun engagement photo session with a dear friend of mine! When we sat down to talk about concepts for this photo shoot, she had this idea of a tree swing backlit by the sun... Of course, I loved it right off the bat and we went in search of the perfect tree to capture this photo. I don't think we could have found a more idealistic setting for these shots! I just love everything about this shoot including the handmade tree swing that was made by the gentleman in the photographs. Looking forward to photographing their wedding this October! XOXO

I had the best time photographing so many familiar faces during my February Mini Session held last month, especially this adorable bunch! It was a gorgeous afternoon in Santa Barbara with the sun peeking in and out of the clouds. It was picture perfect! This cute family was so fun to work with and their little guy was so easy going... I am loving his monster truck shirt which just happens to be his favorite piece of clothing! What a cutie pie!

With the hustle and bustle of this past holiday season, I am still coming across some beautiful family photo sessions I never got around to posting at the time. This was a great outdoor family photo session take at the Bacara Beach Resort in Goleta. It was a chilly overcast afternoon, but the light was spectacular! I just love overcast weather for beach shoots... It really makes for some gorgeous light! Despite the cool breeze, this adorable family didn't let their frozen toes get in the way of making some memories. I just love these shots... So playful and fun!

Happy New Year! Wow, now that the Holidays have come to a close I can finally take a breath and blog some of my favorite photo sessions of the season! This was by far the busiest season that I have had to date! Although it was pure craziness trying to get everything done in time, it was well worth my efforts. Love this family photo session out on the bluffs in Santa Barbara. The light was fading quickly and we didn't have much time, but we managed to get some great shots just as the sun was setting on the horizon. It was breezy and cold out, but I just adore these photos and so happy we made this shoot happen. A big thank you to these kiddos for being such good sports even though they really had hoped to catch the end of the 49er game on this late Sunday afternoon. Happy Holidays!
