There are so many great locations here in Santa Barbara, but these bluffs always take my breath away. No matter how many times I walk along these cliffs, I am always in awe of this magical place... Truly stunning!! With this vintage baby-blue Volkswagen Bug, this adorable little family, and these incredible views, I was in my own dreamland!!! I couldn't have asked for a better afternoon... The light was perfect, the weather warm, and this sweet little girl was having the time of her life. Magic!!!

I grew up with this gorgeous mama and hadn’t seen her since our high school graduation 15 years ago. So I was totally delighted when she emailed me about setting up a maternity shoot in Santa Barbara. These two parent-to-be simply radiated that delicious anticipation of life, a new chapter just waiting to be written.

I love how my job reconnects me with people I have not seen for years. From young friends to parents - it’s remarkable to share these milestones with them, reminisce and imagine the future. I am so excited to photograph their baby girl next month!

What to Wear, Santa Barbara Family Photographer

What to wear is one of the most frequently asked questions in portraiture. My answer is pretty simple: keep everyone coordinated, but not matching. I usually tell my clients to choose a color palette of 3 to 5 colors and have everyone dress in varying shades and tones of those colors. Most importantly, be comfortable and like what you’re wearing. Unless you’re going for a themed portrait, your clothes should look natural on you and reflect what you would wear during your day-to-day or when you get dressed up.

I have photographed this sweet family for two years now and as their brood grows, so does the level of cuteness. Talk about kids with style! Mom definitely knows what she’s doing.

I love the eclectic urban look on these five. With two rambunctious boys and a sweet little toddler, their outfits were totally appropriate to let them run around and not worry about messing up their clothes. Oh, how I just absolutely adore these photos! This photo shoot was not for a client, but for me. I had a vision... I wanted to create something beautiful with the feeling of winter and the approaching holidays. My idea was to express the essence of Christmas in a subtle and beautiful way... I think I got what I was hoping for. This adorable little girl was so excited to put on her white fairy dress and pose for the camera. We went through a TON of glitter and made a huge mess, but I think it was worth every minute we spent sweeping up. Thank you for making my vision come to life! XOXO

Here is another fun photo shoot from my Holiday Mini Sessions! I have had the pleasure of photographing these sisters over the last few years and I always enjoy their sweet little laughs and giggles! We had a great time together and I was able to captured some adorable photos of them as they explored their surroundings. It was a gorgeous morning in Goleta where I was holding a series of Mini Sessions... Although it was cool and overcast, the light was just gorgeous. I am always excited to wake up to fog and overcast weather when I have a photo shoot... It makes for soft beautiful light! Love it!

Every year I donate an outdoor family photo session to the Santa Barbara Montessori School for their annual fundraiser and auction. Their event is always spectacular and I love to help out this amazing school in any way I can. This sweet family won my donation this year! I could not have been more excited when these 3 adorable little girls showed up for their photo session. They were so excited to put on their pink dresses and play with all the fun props I brought along. We had an amazing afternoon together running through the grass and getting our feet wet in the tide.

Here was a portrait session I photographed this past summer that I just loved, but realized I never posted the photos! It was a gorgeous evening out at the Bacara Beach with the sun hidden behind a light layer of clouds. A perfect setting for some beautiful outdoor family photos! I never really know how it will go when including animals into a photo session. Sometimes it can go great and other times, not so much. However, I am always willing to give it a try! These two pups were amazing and I was so lucky to capture the special bond between this family and their furry friends.

Words cannot describe how sweet it was to see Chance's 3 big brothers shower him with so much love! It was a beautiful morning in Santa Barbara up on the Mesa... Perfect weather for an indoor window-light photo shoot at my client's home. They had stunning floor to ceiling windows and the light filled the house so beautifully. Just gorgeous! We had hoped to do some newborn photos after Chance's birth, but the photo shoot had to be delayed a few weeks. At 3 months old, this little guy was already so strong holding his head up and giving me the most adorable expressions! What a treat!

Such a pleasure to photograph this beautiful family once again for my Summer Mini Sessions in Santa Barbara, CA! I always love seeing my clients year after year... I get to watch and document such a special time in their lives. I can't believe it's been a whole year since I have seen this little guy... Where does the time go! Having two small children myself, it seems like they will be in diapers forever and that they will always need you to watch, listen, and chase after them as they explore the world. However, I have to remind myself that one day, not too long from now, they will become more independent and start to explore the world on their own. We all must remember to cherish these moments now and live in the present. Maybe the laundry is overflowing and the house looks less than perfect, but as my 4 year old would say "Who cares!"

Hello little Keegan Montgomery!! It was such a pleasure to meet and photograph this sweet and loving family. I just love the adorable nursery they created for their little man. So much love and creativity was put into making a special space for baby Keegan. It turned out just beautiful!

For the last couple of months, I have been extremely busy with newborn photo sessions... Must be something in the water! :) I am just loving all these sweet little babes, especially since I just had a little guy of my own back in February!! It's so fun to see how different each and every baby is. Newborn sessions are so special and I just love sharing this intimate time with parents and their little bundles!

I had a blast photographing Jen, Brian, and their adorable little boy, Jake, a few weeks back here in Santa Barbara! I can't believe how big Jake has grown! I just adore this sweet family and have grown very close to them over this last year while documenting all the wonderful milestones that have taken place in their lives. I had the best afternoon photographing Maggie... What a ham!! She was so hilarious and loved to pose for the camera with her school friend watching on the sidelines throughout most of the photo shoot. Maggie had a blast playing with all my photo props and trying on every single hat I brought... I have a thing for hats too! I just love her beautiful red hair against her cream dress. The sunlight came streaking through the trees and made for the most gorgeous light... It was a magical afternoon here in Santa Barbara after weeks of rain. It's so nice to have the sun out again!!
