I just love working with this family of five – they always coordinate their outfits so well to go perfectly with the locations we choose. We shot this session for their holiday card, but you wouldn’t know it from the gorgeous, sunny afternoon on the beach.

Shooting on location presents challenges, like getting soaked in the waves as the tide comes up, but we all had so much fun frolicking in the waves. It was perfect for their rambunctious kids and the perfect way to tire them out for the sandy and salty car ride home!

I always love it when I hear from old friends needing maternity and newborn photos. Our special connection always makes for a meaningful shoot, especially seeing how everyone grows into their new families.

This sweet baby girl slept through her entire newborn photo session making my job a total breeze. We were able to gently position her for each shot while she snoozed comfortably. That soft baby skin, crimson lips and precious pink accents - swoon!

Have family, will travel! I was delighted to accept my good friend’s request to join her growing family at their Park City, Utah home to capture the beautiful Fall colors for their holiday card. (It’s no secret that I jump at the chance to travel for work!)

As a Southern California native, the turning of the seasons just blew me away – it was my first time witnessing the vibrant yellows, oranges and reds. We worked with a handful of stunning locations, from their backyard to a babbling brook nearby. I couldn’t put my camera down and the results were just gorgeous!

There are so many great locations here in Santa Barbara, but these bluffs always take my breath away. No matter how many times I walk along these cliffs, I am always in awe of this magical place... Truly stunning!! With this vintage baby-blue Volkswagen Bug, this adorable little family, and these incredible views, I was in my own dreamland!!! I couldn't have asked for a better afternoon... The light was perfect, the weather warm, and this sweet little girl was having the time of her life. Magic!!!

This shoot really gave me the warm fuzzies. Not only was the light and location amazingly beautiful, but this mama was so grateful for the photo shoot. Anticipating the birth of her second child, she was thrilled to capture the last few precious moments as a family of three.

At times, pregnancy can be a long, tough, and exhausting road, and as this mama put it, "It will be so nice to have these beautiful photos to look back on." As a mom of two sons, I know all too well that rarely is a day picture perfect, but these moments we capture remind us just how much joy children bring into our lives. This shoot really brightened her day and this is why my job is so amazing! I just love to make people feel good and excited about life.

I grew up with this gorgeous mama and hadn’t seen her since our high school graduation 15 years ago. So I was totally delighted when she emailed me about setting up a maternity shoot in Santa Barbara. These two parent-to-be simply radiated that delicious anticipation of life, a new chapter just waiting to be written.

I love how my job reconnects me with people I have not seen for years. From young friends to parents - it’s remarkable to share these milestones with them, reminisce and imagine the future. I am so excited to photograph their baby girl next month!

Bringing home Baby #2 is always such a different story for each family. The excitement, the exhaustion, the hormones, the toddler energy along with a newborn - it truly is an amazing whirlwind of emotions! From my own experience, the enormous shift that a second child brings into the family dynamic is major. This sweet brood is still taking it all in - learning how to become a family of four. Luckily for the new little one, life is definitely going to be more about "going with the flow."

As a lifestyle photographer I normally work with children, so when this dear couple asked me to take pictures of them with their little pup, it was the little kid in me that said yes.

In the 10 years I’ve been doing portraiture I rarely work with animals, but I’ve found that puppies and children share one major trait in front of the lens: they run the show! If they are bored, you will know it. If they are grumpy, you will know it. If they are having a blast, watch out for cuteness overload!

I made my silly noises, ran all over the place and rolled on the ground with this sweet rascal - anything to get that priceless, authentic expression that lets you see inside his personality. I had a blast with this furry friend and his humans!

Being a successful newborn photographer isn’t all about technical prowess, though that helps. Truly it’s the energy you bring to the shoot. Especially with the newest of new, like this little nugget, who at just seven days old was a picture of sweetness.

Calm, caring, peaceful. There’s a meditative calmness to spending hours posing these sleeping babes and coaxing them gently, quietly to sleep when they rouse.

With her two sisters lending a helping hand, she settled right in and let me capture some adorable moments! I just love that she snuggled up with the family dog - not an easy combination to photograph and so gratifying when everyone’s in the flow and it works out.

Spring is such a delightful time of year. Filled with newborns left and right, I always love hearing all the birth stories of sweet new life entering the world as the wildflowers bloom here in Santa Barbara.

These dear friends are always fun to photograph. After waiting anxiously for 9 months, I was so excited to meet this little man and document this special time for them.

This mama’s sense of style always adds so much to our sessions. Her home is gorgeously modern with a bohemian touch - so warm and welcoming with pops of color and orange accents. I love how effortlessly put together she always looks, with just the right mix of coastal California boho panache.

This little nugget was so fun to photograph. Those sweet cheeks! That handmade beanie! The chubby little arms and legs! Ahh! Love! As he kicked his legs and suckled on his hand, I couldn’t help but reminisce about my two boys at this age.

At about 3 months old, babies really start to come into their own. As their senses and bodies become more developed, you can finally start to see flashes of the personality that’s brewing inside. And it just never ceases to amaze me how quickly they grow and soon become running, stomping, talking kids.

I love babies at every age and feel so lucky to get to work with these wee ones. Documenting their miraculous growth and evolution as people truly touches my heart.

So far, 2014 has been filled with sweetness and love as I've been busy with many newborn photo sessions. What a beautiful way to start the year! With every newborn portrait I create, I am always amazed at these little beings and how different each and every baby is. This particular session was taken outdoors in January! Typically, I would not suggest doing a newborn shoot outside in the middle of winter. However, seeing as how we've had 80 degree weather here in Santa Barbara it's pretty much like summer minus the June gloom. This baby girl had to have been one of the easiest newborns I have ever photographed. She fell peacefully asleep and only woke for a few seconds here and there. What a cutie! I just love the baby rolls and those big pouty red lips... Adorable!

Having photographed these girls a few times over the last year, I didn't think it was possible these sisters could get any more adorable than they already are. However, when they showed up to their photo shoot wearing these adorable hats I was proven very wrong!! How cute are these girls!! Love it! What a fun photo session at Alice Keck Park in downtown Santa Barbara. It was a chilly overcast morning, but that did not stop us from having a ball and capturing these adventurous girls.

I had the best time photographing this sweet couple's maternity session here in Santa Barbara. It was such a pleasure to capture this special time as they await the arrival of their baby boy this coming winter. Photographing couples expecting their first baby is always a touching and exciting experience for me... I reminisce about my first pregnancy and the quiet moments I would have with my husband. I have the fondest memories of us sitting quietly on the couch talking about the baby, the future, and of course the birth. It is those quiet still moments I remember the most...

Words cannot describe how sweet it was to see Chance's 3 big brothers shower him with so much love! It was a beautiful morning in Santa Barbara up on the Mesa... Perfect weather for an indoor window-light photo shoot at my client's home. They had stunning floor to ceiling windows and the light filled the house so beautifully. Just gorgeous! We had hoped to do some newborn photos after Chance's birth, but the photo shoot had to be delayed a few weeks. At 3 months old, this little guy was already so strong holding his head up and giving me the most adorable expressions! What a treat!

One of my favorite things about being a children and family photographer is that I get to see many of these kids year after year. I get to watch them grow and develop their funny little personalities... Such a joy! They get to know me, and I, them. I photographed this sweet girl a couple years back for their family Christmas photos. Even though I have two kids of my own, I still am amazed at how quickly children grow and change! Makes me want to go photograph my children this moment just to capture them as they are today. How does time fly by so fast?

Welcome to the world little Tucker!! This sweet baby boy was the most amazing newborn to photograph... He just slept and slept... and slept! Since this little nugget was born about a month, I was able to photograph him on his actual due date! He was teeny tiny when he was born, but is growing fast and already over 6lbs when I got to take his newborn portraits. It was a fun shoot and I always love when parents have cute little props and ideas in mind. I just love this boat they had in their home! So perfect! It made the most adorable prop for Tucker's newborn photo shoot and the images will match their home perfectly!

Hello little Keegan Montgomery!! It was such a pleasure to meet and photograph this sweet and loving family. I just love the adorable nursery they created for their little man. So much love and creativity was put into making a special space for baby Keegan. It turned out just beautiful!

For the last couple of months, I have been extremely busy with newborn photo sessions... Must be something in the water! :) I am just loving all these sweet little babes, especially since I just had a little guy of my own back in February!! It's so fun to see how different each and every baby is. Newborn sessions are so special and I just love sharing this intimate time with parents and their little bundles!

Meet Wilder Stone- Newborn Photos, Santa Barbara, CA

My sweet Wilder Stone arrived on February 12th, 2013 at 9:15am. He weighed in at 9lbs 3oz... He was one big boy! The labor was long, crazy, and intense, but isn't that how birth is supposed to be? Although I am taking maternity leave until April, I had to take some newborn pictures of my little man in his first few days of life. Even though I wanted to spend the day relaxing in bed and recover from the birth, I found the energy to put together a mini photo session so that I can always remember this special time in our lives. Wilder's big brother, Roman, is so excited to finally hold "his baby!" We all are so happy to have this amazing little being in our lives. I feel very blessed!
