What a little sweetheart! As you may have guessed, this newborn photo session was just about as adorable as it gets! With every newborn baby I photograph, I never know exactly how they will react to having their portrait taken... Some babies instantly fall peacefully to sleep (like this little nugget), while others decide it's more fun to give me a challenge! Either way, I love every minute I get to spend with these precious little ones.
Bringing home Baby #2 is always such a different story for each family. The excitement, the exhaustion, the hormones, the toddler energy along with a newborn - it truly is an amazing whirlwind of emotions! From my own experience, the enormous shift that a second child brings into the family dynamic is major. This sweet brood is still taking it all in - learning how to become a family of four. Luckily for the new little one, life is definitely going to be more about "going with the flow."
Spring is such a delightful time of year. Filled with newborns left and right, I always love hearing all the birth stories of sweet new life entering the world as the wildflowers bloom here in Santa Barbara.
These dear friends are always fun to photograph. After waiting anxiously for 9 months, I was so excited to meet this little man and document this special time for them.
This mama’s sense of style always adds so much to our sessions. Her home is gorgeously modern with a bohemian touch - so warm and welcoming with pops of color and orange accents. I love how effortlessly put together she always looks, with just the right mix of coastal California boho panache.

Now that the holiday rush has come to a close, the kids are back in school, and all the holiday decor has been pack away for next year, I have some time to reflect on an amazing year and share some of the shoots that closed out 2014. Each year as fall and winter approach, my schedule gets a little crazy (to be honest, it is insanely nuts) and I find it hard to keep up with the blog and all the updates happening at the studio. This sweet little guy was born in mid-October, just in time to join his family for the start of the holidays! There’s a beautiful magic to sharing our beloved traditions for the first time with our little ones. Personally, I’m always honored to work with a brand new baby... Talk about squishy sweetness! Just look at his beautiful face!
For the most part, I gravitate towards simplicity with my newborn photo sessions (I am not the biggest fan of over-propping) because it lets us focus on their sweet faces, tiny curled toes, delicate eyelashes and squishy little bodies - all of which are just so scrumptious! But when mama pulled out this tiny Santa hat for the shoot I just couldn’t resist. It was really appropriate given this little nugget was born just in time for the holidays!
After about 30 minutes of lulling this little one to sleep, he nestled in and I was able to capture some adorable keepsake moments for the family. His big brother was awesome - so caring and calm with his baby brother. Being a mother of two small boys it always melts my heart to see this profound sibling relationship forming.
Two of my favorite and most challenging subjects to photograph are animals and newborns. How these two posed so perfect and effortlessly together just astonished me. With most animals and newborns, you’d think that a biscuit and some milk would make them respectively happy enough to mellow out and sit still, but rarely is that the case. To my surprise, this sweet little girl and her protector were far from the norm... She just snoozed away while this little pup curled up next to her so calmly, so patient. I watched in total amazement as this unfolded before me! My job was done... All there was left to do was take the picture! Amazing! When I first showed up to the house for the shoot, Fido was racing in excitment. But as soon as his humans put their baby next to him, he instantly transformed into the most calm and gentle protector. Exuberant one minute and seriously well behaved the next. I love the warmth of these images and the promise of the unconditional love that’s already forming!
I had the pleasure of welcoming this little nugget into the world a few weeks back! Baby J was welcomed by his mom, dad, and two older brothers... What a lucky guy! This sweetheart fell right asleep for his newborn photo shoot and pretty much stayed that way for the entire 2 hours photo session. Amongst the pleasant chaos of having two older brothers, Baby J slept peacefully, barely waking when I moved him into position. It was so sweet to see how perfectly this little guy fit into his new family... So much love for this sweet little soul.
Love this little sweet pea! It was such a pleasure to photograph this adorable little babe at just about 10 days old. Newborn portraits are one of my all time favorite things to photograph, especially this little nugget! This sweet girl slept from start to finish making my job super fun and easy. We swapped out props, hats, wraps all while Baby R snoozed away... So precious! It is really such a treat to capture this glimpse of time for parents and families. Love it!
So far, 2014 has been filled with sweetness and love as I've been busy with many newborn photo sessions. What a beautiful way to start the year! With every newborn portrait I create, I am always amazed at these little beings and how different each and every baby is. This particular session was taken outdoors in January! Typically, I would not suggest doing a newborn shoot outside in the middle of winter. However, seeing as how we've had 80 degree weather here in Santa Barbara it's pretty much like summer minus the June gloom. This baby girl had to have been one of the easiest newborns I have ever photographed. She fell peacefully asleep and only woke for a few seconds here and there. What a cutie! I just love the baby rolls and those big pouty red lips... Adorable!
I had the privilege to photograph this little darling over the holiday season. This sweet baby girl was just a few days old when these newborn photos were taken... Although the house was far from quite with older two sisters running around, this little one just slept peacefully while I photographed her and her siblings. I just adore these newborn portraits and love that I got to capture such a special time for this family! I am sure they all had a wonderful Christmas with this cutie pie!
At one week old, I had the pleasure of photographing this sweet little guy and welcome him into the world. Although I had a baby boy this last February, I was still in awe of his petite little features, his wrinkly skin, and those sweet newborn baby noises. It is so easy to forget how tiny these little ones are in those first few weeks of life... I am so happy to have captured this moment in time for this sweet family! Lots of love to you all!
There are no words for how sweet little guy is! Baby Jake is so blessed to have such a loving family and I was lucky enough to photograph some of their first memories together. Jake was so calm throughout the entire photo shoot and I was able to capture some very precious moments at their home in Santa Barbara, CA. I just love newborn portraits... Oh, how I love sleeping baby portraits! It took a little time to get baby Jack all comfy and cozy, but it was time well spent! We got some beautiful newborn photos that melt my heart. This little guy did amazing and has such a calm nature to him... Isn't he adorable!
